HOW TO GUIDE ON WRITING AN ESTIMATE FOR A CLEANING JOB
PRICING
First of all, you need to decide if you want to charge by the hour or by the job. It makes more sense for me to charge by the job, but that is totally up to you. I put together a flyer with 6 different cleaning packages. For example, Economy Pkg #1Â will clean 1 bed, 1-2 baths, living room, dining room, kitchen, laundry room and all floors vacuumed and/or mopped, etc. I charge $125.00 for this particular package, but you may want to charge more or less depending on your area. I generate a more monthly income this way and it works best for me. It is your option if you want to charge by the hour and what works for you.
The average hourly rate for house cleaning is between $25.00-$50.00 or more, again depending on your area is what you can charge. You may want to know what hourly rate your competitors charge and that will give you an idea on what you will want to charge. Once you know your hourly rate or if you want to charge by the job, you need to set up your pricing list package.
Don’t forget to calculate your business expenses into your pricing. You will most likely have the expenses listed as follows. Business license (mine renews yearly), insurance (yearly), cleaning products if you plan on using your own. I use all natural plant-based, which are more expensive than basic commercial cleaners, you will need to figure this cost into your rates. Most clients prefer using nontoxic cleaners over commercial cleaning products.
Equipment: mops, brooms, caddies, vacuum cleaner, carpet cleaner (if you plan to clean carpets), business cards, magnetic car door signs (for advertisement), etc. I have picked up quite a few jobs with this advertisement. Give refer a friend coupons to your clients, if they refer a friend or family you can give them $10.00-$25.00 off a one-time cleaning, once the client redeems the coupon and you are paid for that cleaning. You can also give out gift certificates, I design my own through vistaprint.com. This makes a great gift for your clients to give out to their friends and family during the holidays or anytime gift.
SCHEDULE A WALKTHROUGH
Schedule an appointment with the new client to do a walkthrough so you can get a better idea on what price to charge them, this way you can evaluate the job and know exactly what kind of work you’re getting yourself into. It’s not a good idea to give them a price over the phone because the work can be greater than you anticipate and you don’t want to underprice yourself. Some clients may want a basic cleaning, and some may want a deep cleaning, and that will reflect on the price because you will want to charge more for a deep cleaning. It’s still a good idea to quote them in person.
CLEANING PACKET CHECKLIST
Put together a cleaning packet and give this to your client at the end of the walkthrough, include the following items into the packet. Â Also, have a schedule book or calendar available to schedule your new client in the book for whatever day works best for them and you, but always try to accommodate them as much as possible.
