HOW TO CLEAN CAT URINE OUT OF YOUR CARPET WITH ESSENTIAL OILS

You absolutely love your furry little feline friends, but we all know they can leave a very foul smell in your carpet. This recipe will clean the cat urine out and leave your carpet smelling fresh and clean! Make sure you get to the stain as quickly as possible and blot up as much as you can with a microfiber cloth.

Recipe~

  • 50% vinegar
  • 50% water
  • 1 cup baking soda
  • 1/4 cup 3% hydrogen peroxide  (purchase the type you use on cuts Not used to bleach hair)
  • A few drops of non-toxic dish soap
  • 2 drops lemongrass
  • 2 drops rosemary
  • 2 drops cedarwood
  • 2 drops clary sage

Directions~

Wet the area with white distilled vinegar and water and let it sit for about 30 minutes. It will neutralize the urine smell. Make sure you use enough of the solution to penetrate the fibers deep down. After you apply the vinegar and water treatment after 30 minutes, dry off the carpet as much as possible with a blotting motion. Then mix together 1/4 cup of the 3% hydrogen peroxide (test on an inconspicuous area to make sure it doesn’t remove the color on your carpet) add 2 drops of dish soap, or you can use a spray bottle for the hydrogen peroxide solution with the 2 drops of dish soap, shake well. Use a pair of rubber gloves and work it well into the carpet with a soft brush or sponge, blot dry.

Then apply a cup full of the baking soda and essential oils. Combine lemongrass, rosemary, cedarwood, and clary sage over the area, use two drops each. This combination is safe to use around your feline cat friends. (Always use 100% therapeutic grade essential oils). Add oils to baking soda and mix it together. If you do not have this blend of essential oils combination, use what you have. (Make sure your oils are feline pet-friendly). This will absorb any odor in your carpet. Allow it to air dry several hours or overnight.

Once completely dry, just vacuum up the dried baking soda. You can double the recipe for larger areas. To freshen your vacuum cleaner, cut a paper towel into 1/4 sheet. Add a few drops of lavender essential oil or a scent of your choice. Place the 1/4 sheet of paper towel with the essential oil added into your vacuum canister. This will give off a fresh scent. Change the paper towel each time you vacuum to add a fresh new scent.

Disclaimer~

It is best to check with your veterinarian before using certain essential oils around your cat. Although every cat is different, some cats can be allergic to essential oils. They can be very sensitive to some oils because they are unable to efficiently process phenols. Never apply essential oils on the skin of your pets.
