5 WAYS TO GET RID OF ANTS NATURALLY
Ants can cause an electrical short in your home
Ants can cause damage to your home, they get inside your walls and build nests and chew through your wiring. This causes them to be electrocuted and it can cause an electrical short and ignite a fire.
You never want to use toxins in your home. Here are 5 ways to get rid of ants. They are attracted to sweet smells and sugary foods. Make sure to put all the food away after each meal and don’t leave it sitting on the table and countertops. Always vacuum up crumbs so this doesn’t leave an invitation for the ants to come in for dinner.
ONE:
- 3-5 drops citronella essential oil
- 3-5 drops lavender essential oil
- 3-5 drops cinnamon essential oil
- 15 drops peppermint essential oil
- Distilled water
- Vodka (high proof)
Directions:
Add 1/3 cup of distilled water plus 1/3 cup of high proof vodka to a spray bottle. Then add oils to the mixture. Shake bottle well and spray into cracks and areas where ants may be entering your home. Be careful not to spray around food or drinks. Also, test on kitchen surfaces first to make sure it causes no damage. You can also mix 1 tsp. of boric acid with 2 oz. of honey and a few drops of the peppermint oil. (Boric acid is a natural, non-toxic insecticide for the control of ants).
Heat it over the stove until thoroughly blended, then mix it with 2 oz. of water. Leave it outside to bait the ants, and continue doing this procedure until they are gone. Peel an orange or lemon and leave the peelings outside your house. The citrus acid in the peelings will kill the ants.
Note: Insect repellents are very toxic to pets & children and can make them very sick. Always use a natural remedy to keep them safe and healthy.
TWO:
PEPPERMINT-
Add peppermint to a cotton ball and rub around the baseboards of the room. Ants hate peppermint!
THREE:
Table salt is a great way to deter ants from your home. Boil water and table salt (about 8 oz. of table salt), stir the salt until it is dissolved in the boiling water. Let cool and add to a spray bottle. Spray solution directly on the ants. You can also sprinkle plain table salt around the base of your home (on the outside) and this will deter insects from coming into your home.
FOUR:
Use equal parts of white distilled vinegar and water, add 10 drops of lemon essential oil. Spray in the cracks of the doors and window sills.
FIVE:
Add 6 teaspoons of borax and 6 teaspoons of sugar to a container. Add hot water to make a paste, and stir until the mixture dissolves. Add a few drops of honey and stir. Put in small containers or large bottle caps and sit them around the house in inconspicuous areas. Keep this mixture away from children and pets!
